There is always something new and exciting happening at NIROW<\/strong>. This year, our calendar includes a mix of fun, social events for the family, including personal and professional development seminars with lots of opportunities for community service and volunteer hours. Additional information about each event will be available closer to the date.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tSocial Events\n\t<\/h2>\n\t

At NIROW<\/strong>, our social events bring people together to celebrate culture, build friendships, and create lasting memories. These gatherings foster connection, inclusion, and a strong sense of community for newcomers and long-time residents alike.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tAnnual Children’s Day Festival\n\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\"INDEFESTDSC_0819_8256x5504\"\n\t

\u00a0<\/i>In Nigeria, Children’s Day is a nationally recognized event, marked by a holiday set aside to honour children. NIROW<\/strong> is proud to bring this legacy to life in the\u00a0Waterloo\u00a0Region, creating a welcoming space where all children, regardless of background, can feel seen, celebrated, and inspired.<\/p>\n

As part of our mandate to create opportunities for social interaction amongst members of our community, NIROW<\/strong> organizes a fun day event for our children in celebration of the annual International Children’s Day celebration. <\/p>\n

\n\t\tIndefest\n\t<\/h2>\n\t

INDEFEST<\/strong> is one of the largest African celebrations in the Region of Waterloo, commemorating Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1st. This festival honors and inspires Nigerians living in the region and beyond, while also providing an opportunity to network with other nationalities. INDEFEST<\/strong> is an epic display of Nigerian arts, culture, dance, food, and music.<\/p>\n

Since 2016, we have successfully held nine editions of the Independence Day Festival, attracting over 2,800 people from across the Region of Waterloo and its surroundings. Special guests have included notable Nigerians making a positive impact in the region and across Canada, Members of Parliament, Mayors, and community leaders. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"INDEFESTDSC_0430_8256x5504\"\n

\n\t\tFlag Rising Ceremony\n\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\"Team\n\t

In 2024, we had the privilege of hoisting the Nigerian flag at Kitchener City Hall to mark Nigeria’s 64th year of independence.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0flag raising\u00a0is a powerful symbol of unity, pride, and multiculturalism. It brings together Nigerians across the region and offers a moment to celebrate our heritage while also expressing appreciation to our host country, Canada. It is an opportunity for us to express our deep regard and honor for our home country. We anticipate that many Nigerians within the region will gather for this significant occasion, uniting in celebration of our shared heritage and history.<\/p>\n

By raising the Nigerian flag, we hope to symbolize our unity and the strong ties between Canada and Nigeria.<\/p>\n\t
