Book-A-Pedia by NIROW

NIROW kicked off its first Bookapedia Book Study Club of 2026 with a special storytime session led by Aunty Didi of Storytime with Aunty Didi (YouTube). She read Sulwe by Lupita Nyong’o, a powerful story about self-love, identity, and embracing one’s skin tone.

The themes of Sulwe deeply resonate with Our NIROW Young readers, many of whom navigate questions of belonging, beauty standards, and cultural identity in spaces where they may look or feel different. Through this story, children were encouraged to see themselves as beautiful, worthy, and proud of who they are, both in their Blackness and their Nigerian heritage.

Some parents were also present to enjoy the session alongside their children, creating a shared learning and bonding experience. The event reinforced NIROW’s commitment to fostering confidence, cultural pride, and positive self-identity in our youth through storytelling and community engagement.

The next event will be holding on the 28th of February, 2026.
