NIROW’s Press Release on the Solidarity Walk

Members of the Nigerians in the Region of Waterloo (NIROW), alongside community partners and
residents from across Waterloo Region, gathered at Carl Zehr Square in downtown Kitchener on the
evening of Sunday, June 14, for a peaceful Solidarity Walk and Candlelight Vigil.

The event was organized to raise awareness about the ongoing kidnapping of children, teachers,
and innocent civilians in Nigeria, and to stand in solidarity with affected families.

The gathering brought together community members, elected officials, and advocates to honour
victims, support impacted families, and call for urgent action to address the worsening insecurity in
Nigeria. Participants carried candles, observed moments of reflection, and listened to powerful
testimonies highlighting the devastating effects of these tragedies.

The event also marked the launch of a community petition titled “Bring Back Our Children.” The
petition calls for:
 Stronger measures to protect children
 Immediate action to secure the release of abducted victims
 Improved security in schools and vulnerable communities
 Increased support for affected families
